religion plays an important role in the lives of many people in kyrgyzstan the main religion is islam, and most kyrgyz people are muslim, mainly following sunni islam islam came to the region many centuries ago through trade and cultural exchange along the silk road

for many kyrgyz people, islam is a part of their daily routine some go to the mosque, pray, and take part in religious holidays like ramazan ay (ramadan) and kurman ait (eid al-adha) others may follow it more in tradition than in practice many people show their faith through kindness, hospitality, and respect for others
